The End of an Era - 20 years licensing with Wake Forest University
Sew Fabulous, Inc. launched (like a rocket!) in 2006, when Gloria Stickney designed a Wake Forest University themed quilt of old gold and black fabrics with WFU logos.
The quilt was named "Dreamin' Deacon" featuring a stitched theme of footballs and helmets. 2006 was a special year. It was the year WFU won the ACC football tournament!
Dreamin' Deacon was first introduced at the 2006 WFU Artisans' Fair, the same day WFU fans loaded the buses headed to the ACC football game to cheer for the winning Demon Deacon team! Needless to say, the quilt received a lot of attention! The decision was made to launch Sew Fabulous, Inc. and secure the license to begin producing customized and personalized "Dreamin' Deacon" quilts. And we've been making personalized and customized quilts ever since!
In the beginning Gloria sewed on an old sewing machine. She would make the quilt tops at home (while living in Kernersville) and travel regularly to her aunt's home in Knoxville to utilize her longarm quilt machine, then bring them back to NC to finish. After two years of traveling to Knoxville, the decision was made to take the plunge and invest in a computerized longarm quilting machine (think the price of a car).
Sew Fabulous, Inc. now boasts 2 computerized longarm quilting machines, commercial embroidery machines and a team! Gloria specializes in customized and personalized theme-stitched t-shirt memory quilts, teaching quilting classes, quilt related speaking engagements, quilting for the community and selling quilt products at quilt shows around the US.
The 20 years of WFU licensing provided opportunities to meet many wonderful Demon Deacon faithful fans who have supported and encouraged the growth of Sew Fabulous, Inc.. Gloria has designed quite a few Wake Forest themed quilts and wall-hangings as well as other Demon Deacon hand crafted products for the home. A fan favorite was the Demon Deacon themed dishtowels. Gloria and her husband Bob are truly grateful for the support everyone has exhibited for Sew Fabulous, Inc!
Sew Fabulous, Inc. continues to grow. Gloria retired from the WFU Physics department in 2021 after 21 years working at WFU. Since retirement, she continues to work in the quilt shop located in the home, teaches Sunday School to elementary children, plays piano with the praise team at church as well as enjoys traveling and spending time with the family. Bob works along side her, maintaining the machines and creating hand turned quilting tools, a quilter's favorite.

While the WFU licensing era is ending, the quilting at Sew Fabulous, Inc. grows. Many customers from around the US send their t-shirts to Sew Fabulous, Inc. to preserve their memories in a custom theme-stitched quilt. It is truly amazing the quilts that are created! Perhaps you might like to preserve your t-shirts and your memories with a Sew Fabulous, Inc. creation!
A big shout out to Sew Fabulous, Inc. supporters! The business has grown by the customers who spread the word about what makes Sew Fabulous, Inc. so special. THANK YOU!!
